Sea&Sea MDX-D500 (for Nikon D500)

The dimensions are almost the same as those of the MDX-D810. However, the MDX-D500 is approx. 400g / 14.1 oz. lighter than the MDX-D810. The underwater weight has improved due to a more precise machining method.

Key Features

The housing is made from carefully selected aircraft grade aluminum alloy and premium grade stainless steel. It is machined on the latest 5 axis computer assisted machines available, and is protected by anodizing it. While anodizing will protect the housing from the environment, it will fade and discolor if left exposed to the elements, and so for further protection.

Precise shaping is achieved through laser cutting tools, all controls shafts are double O-ring sealed, all push buttonshave Quad-ring seals, and every shaft and push button are manufactured to a mirror smooth surface that meets strictest standards. All of this is done to achieve the standard 330ft/100 meter.

No matter what the diving conditions are, you remain in control of the situation with the Sea&Sea MDX-D500. The thickest of cold water gloves or the smallest of bare hands will not be hindered by the layout. All functions are identified with pad printed paint for quick visual identification and to eliminate the frustration of searching for relocated controls.

Dual optical strobe connectors come standard with the housing, and can fit all popular optical cords on the market. Connecting any S-TTL strobe on the market is a breeze and will give spot on TTL exposure via the cameras built in flash circuitry. Even with the extremely compact size of this housing, Sea&Sea has managed to build in a quick access, one finger operated, internal flash control lever that brings the camera built-in flash up and down. This allows for quickly alternating between strobe illuminated and ambient light photography. For users of more classic strobe connectivity or those that prefer electrically connected TTL converters, the housing can be fit with a classic Nikonos type connector.

Handling is via a pair of molded grips that have been the benchmark for comfort for the last 20 years. Both grips are provided with mounting holes ready to accept the most current strobes and their supporting arms, 3 mounting points are provided under for various brackets for a tripod.

Viewing on the Isotta D7100 is through a Galileo type eyepiece. This high quality coated optical finder gives a bright and full view of the camera’s viewfinder.

PRODUCT DETAILS

• Easy Operation: Important controls such as Info, ISO and FN have been positioned on the right and left sides of the housing making it easily accessible while holding the grips. Playback and enlargement of the focal point may be achieved with one lever action.
• One-touch lock function for the AF lock lever: In AF mode, the AF lock lever may be easily activated, allowing for focus lock by pressing just one lever.
• High-quality luminescent stickers: Controls will glow in low light conditions.
• The main command dial: The main command dial is located on the right-hand side of the housing. The sub-command dial is also located close to the shutter release lever, allowing for easy access of both controls.
• Diopter adjustment dial: The camera's diopter adjustment dial can be operated from the housing. This feature is effective when two or more people (with different eyesight) use the housing.
• Equipped with movable Focus/Zoom gear: When the focus/zoom dial is pulled out, the gear inside the housing will move outward  allowing for lenses with  large diameters to be easily mounted.
  
• Optical YS Converter/N can be built into the housing: Compatible with new Optical YS Converter/N1 for MDX housing which converts the camera’s TTL signal to a light signal. Both TTL and manual strobe photography is possible using a Fiber-Optic Cable II.
• Compatible with both the VF180 1.2x and VF45 1.2x viewfinders: By attaching the VF180 (#46112) or the VF45 prism viewfinders (#46111) (magnification ratio of 1.2x) to the housing, the magnification increases by 1.2x and entire field of view can be seen at the same time. Recommended for users committed to strict composition and focusing. You may encounter some difficulties to access the delete button function if VF45 1.2x is installed on the housing. To avoid this problem, manufacturer suggests using VF180 1.2x instead.
  
• Port can be replaced without opening the housing: Port lock can be now activated from outside the housing. The housing is also equipped with a ‘lens-lock release’ button which allows the lens to be replaced without opening the housing. The port lock can also be activated from inside like previous SEA&SEA housings.Equipped with two fiber-optic cable sockets. With the camera's built-in flash raised and fiber-optic cables fitted, external strobes can be triggered as ‘slave units’ by the built-in flash.
• Every detail of the housing is precision machined. The housing is protected by a highly corrosion resistant anodized coating. All edges have been polished carefully for perfection.
• Controls all the Nikon D800 essential functions underwater. (Bracketing button, preview button and function button are not operable from the housing)
• The multi selector (which is often used underwater) is the same design as the camera control and can be operated in the same way. AF areas and Focus points can be changed by depressing the selector. The multi selector control is located so that it is accessible with your hand on the grip.
• The camera's built-in flash can be activated and deactivated from the housing. (When the accessory light-shielding plate is fixed, this function cannot be used).
• Equipped with Accessory Port which can be used for HDMI output.
• The grip design has been significantly improved with the travelling diver in mind. The grips are mounted with threadless fixings to facilitate easy transportation, mounting and removal of the grips. The new design also alleviates corrosion build up around the fittings.  All fixings are available as spare parts.
• Fitted with a tripod socket on the centre underside of the housing.
• Equipped with the Optical Viewfinder 0.5x as standard. Other (optional) interchangeable viewfinders can be used.
• The quick shoe makes the camera easy to install and remove from the housing.
• Built-in leak sensor immediately alerts you to water ingress.
